Thomas Partey tells Atletico he wants to join Arsenal

Arsenal have been chasing Thomas Partey for a while now. Long before now, in previous windows, the Gunners have made their interest in the Ghanaian known. It should come as no surprise as Partey is a terrific defensive midfielder, one in which the Gunners are in dire need of.

Thomas Partey enters in the final year of his contract when the window reopens and Atletico might well have no option but to sell. Rumours had it that the midfielder had agreed deal with Atletico some time last month but it proved untrue, meaning the player is still up for grabs at a price which should be relatively modest

An interview which Thomas Partey's father took part in with a Ghanaian TV surfaced last month where he said his son would be very open to a move to the Emirates. The telegraph are now claiming that Thomas Partey has made it clear to Atletico that he wants to leave, and the Emirates is his first choice destination.

The midfielder had a modest £45m release clause but Arsenal may well be able to take that a bit lower with the player having just a year left on his contract, and Atletico as a result, being desperate to sell and not lose the player on a free.
